Overview

bannertrackr is a banner ad tracking service for publishers. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect data from two types of users: publishers (our customers who create accounts) and visitors (people who view tracked advertisements on publisher websites and newsletters).

1. Information We Collect from Publishers

When you create a bannertrackr account, we collect:

  • Account information: Email address, name, and password (stored securely hashed)
  • Site information: Names and domains of websites or newsletters you track
  • Placement data: Advertiser names, advertiser emails, banner images, and destination URLs
  • Usage data: How you interact with our dashboard and service

2. Information We Collect from Visitors

When someone views or clicks a tracked advertisement, we collect limited, privacy-focused data:

  • Visitor hash: A daily-rotating hash generated from IP address and user agent. This hash changes every day and cannot be used to identify individuals or track users across days. We do not store raw IP addresses.
  • Country: Country-level location only (no city, region, or precise location)
  • Device type: Whether the visitor is on desktop, mobile, or tablet
  • Proxy detection: Whether the request came through an email client proxy (such as Apple Mail Privacy Protection or Gmail Image Proxy)
  • Timestamp: When the impression or click occurred

What we do NOT collect from visitors: Names, email addresses, raw IP addresses, cookies, browsing history, precise location, or any other personally identifiable information. Our tracking is cookie-less and privacy-focused.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide and operate the bannertrackr service
  • Generate analytics and reports for publishers
  • Calculate unique visitor counts and click-through rates
  • Detect and filter proxy traffic for more accurate metrics
  • Communicate with publishers about their accounts
  • Improve and develop new features
  • Prevent fraud and abuse

4. Data Retention

Tracking data (impressions and clicks) is retained based on your subscription tier:

  • Free: 7 days
  • Starter: 30 days
  • Growth: 90 days
  • Pro: 1 year

After the retention period, raw tracking data is automatically deleted. Aggregated daily statistics (total impressions and clicks per day) may be retained longer for historical analytics. Account information is retained until you delete your account.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share data only in these circumstances:

  • With publishers: Aggregated tracking data is shared with the publisher who created the placement
  • Service providers: We use third-party services to operate bannertrackr (see Third-Party Services below)
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights

6. Third-Party Services

bannertrackr uses the following third-party services:

  • Vercel: Hosting and infrastructure. Provides country-level geolocation from request headers.
  • PostgreSQL database provider: Secure storage of account and tracking data
  • Bunny.net: CDN for hosting banner images uploaded by publishers

7. Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure password hashing (bcrypt), and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

For publishers (account holders):

  • Access your account data through your dashboard
  • Export your tracking data via our API
  • Delete your account and all associated data at any time
  • Update or correct your account information

For visitors:

Because we use daily-rotating hashes and do not store personally identifiable information, we cannot identify or retrieve data for specific individuals. If you have concerns about tracking on a specific website or newsletter, please contact the publisher directly.

9. Publisher Responsibilities

If you are a publisher using bannertrackr, you are responsible for:

  • Disclosing your use of tracking pixels in your own privacy policy
  • Obtaining any consent required by applicable laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) before using our tracking pixels
  • Complying with email marketing laws (CAN-SPAM, CASL, etc.) when using tracking in newsletters

10. Email Tracking and Privacy Features

Some email clients (like Apple Mail with Mail Privacy Protection enabled) automatically load images through proxy servers, which may affect tracking accuracy. We detect these proxies and flag them in our analytics so publishers can understand the limitations of their data. Newsletter tracking may be less accurate than website tracking due to these privacy features.

11. International Data Transfers

bannertrackr operates globally. Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. By using our service, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

12. Children's Privacy

bannertrackr is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

14. Contact Us
